Bad Neighbours stars Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne and Dave Franco in a funny, but typical, comedy about a young couple with a newborn who face unexpected circumstances when a fraternity moves in next-door.
So, what’s it like?
The movie has some great comedic moments, and when I say great- I mean the classic Rogen sex, pot and people injuring themselves. But to be honest, it’s typical, and nothing new. While the premise is funny, the actual acts of comedy are all jokes we have seen and heard before. Efron is great as the cocky, good looking asshole and really fits into this role easily (he also has a couple of brief, but endearing emotional moments), as well as Byrne who is smooth as the blunt Kelly and also gets to use her Australian accent (a rare moment for her).
Rogen though, I found disappointing. We all know his style and work by now from movies like Superbad, Knocked Up, Pineapple Express and This Is The End, being the ill-logically placed ad-libs often leading to comedic gold, however in Bad Neighbours it just fell short of being great. He always plays the same role and I would love to see him step out of that and do something different.
It was good, but disappointing, falling short of great expectations, most of the funniest scenes are annoyingly shown in the trailer.
Wait for the DVD release, watch whilst inebriated with your mates.
