Scarlett Johansson is BAD. ASS.

Coming from the Director behind The Fifth Element, Taken, and TransporterLuc Besson has brought us what looks like a badass SciFi/superhero/action/thriller film starring Scarlett Johansson as Lucy and Morgan Freeman as Professor Norman. Filming first began in Paris in 2013 and has the highest budget in history of EuropaCorp– the production company behind such films as the Taken series, Transporter series and the recent 3 Days to Kill, plus many, many more.

The synopsis reads as follows:

From La Femme Nikita and The Professional to The Fifth Element, writer/director Luc Besson has created some of the toughest, most memorable female action heroes in cinematic history. Now, Besson directs Scarlett Johansson in Lucy, an action-thriller that tracks a woman accidentally caught in a dark deal who turns the tables on her captors and transforms into a merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic.

Lucy also stars Academy Award® winner Morgan Freeman and is produced by Virginie Besson-Silla for EuropaCorp. Universal Pictures will distribute the movie worldwide, except for France, Benelux and China.

To be honest, if it was anyone else but Scarlett Johansson we would probably pass this over as just another SciFi action film, the brain-enhancement bit has been done many times before, however Johannson brings an extra element to this movie that gives it a lot more promise.

Lucy is due out 8 August in the US, no Aussie date yet.
